A Small Job Done Well Leads to Two Larger Projects to Follow
We recently had the pleasure of completing three consecutive projects for one of Athens’ most well-known and esteemed families. A small laundry room update led to finishing a basement and then adding an entire new wing to a handsome Georgian-style home. The project was completed on time and on budget in the Tanner Bluff neighborhood in Athens, GA, just off Timothy Rd and behind Timothy Estates.
Laundry Room Update
About a year ago, Mrs. Mary Adams and former UGA President Dr. Michael Adams called us to advise on updating their laundry room. We were hired to move their laundry appliance hookups, move a wall, replace the flooring, install new cabinets and countertops, refinish the drywall, install new trim, and apply a fresh coat of paint.
Finishing the Basement
Impressed with our handiwork, the Adamses requested a plan and estimate to finish the unfinished basement to make it a shared entertainment space for gatherings of friends and family. We won the bid and proceeded to install new wall frames, new electrical wiring, new drywall, and a new drop ceiling with decorative acoustical ceiling tiles. We also installed new flooring, created a decorative trim finish to existing steel support beams, finished the drywall, and painted the entire space with high-end interior paint. The end result was a new recreational space ideal for family gatherings.
The New Addition
The Third project came along while we were working on the finished basement project. Mrs. Adams met with Mr. Jennings to review some building blueprints recently designed by a local architect. These plans were for a proposed addition to be added to their existing home.
After several meetings and weeks of planning, the Adams decided to hire Cecil Jennings Construction to do the proposed build of this very large and extensive addition project. This project is too vast to detail here, but in brief, the highlights include:
- Tie addition seamlessly into the existing home.
- Site and grade work to prep for the foundation of the new addition.
- Pour concrete footers and full basement concrete walls.
- Frame new addition.
- Install new architectural shingle roofing system.
- Install new brick, new plumbing, and electrical and connect to the existing home.
- Install new septic system.
- Create new tile master and hall bathrooms.
- Install and finish new hardwood flooring and new library cabinets and bookshelves.
- Pour new concrete driveways and sidewalks.
- Install all new windows.
- Install new landscaping, sod, and sprinkler system.
The above are only highlights of the work accomplished on this complex, elegant, and fun project! Ultimately, the project was the equivalent of building a completely new home, with the added challenge of tying into the existing home. We couldn’t be more satisfied with the results, but more importantly, the customer is happy and completely satisfied with all three completed projects.
